Button up your Overcoat

Ende November chattete ich mit einer lieben Freundin /Kundin/ mit Reenactorin, während wir so Ausrüstung und Nähprojekte beschwatzten und Ideen austauschten kam das Gespräch auf bemalte und bedruckte Knöpfe. Ein Phänomen das sich ab den 1770ern beobachten lässt.
Schnell wurde aus "interessantes Thema" ein "Mensch mach sowas doch mal und verkauf die!"
Meine Recherche führte mich (dank Pinterest) sehr schnell zum MET Museum und deren Sammlung von verschiedenen Knöpfen.
End of november I was chatting with a dear friend / customer / fellow reenactress, whilst we were talking about kit and sewing projects and swapping ideas the chat turned towards painted and printed buttons. A phenomenon which started around 1770.
We quickly evolved from "interesting topic" to "you could make those and sell them!"
My research brought my quickly  (thanks to pinterest) to the websire of the MET museum nd their collection of different buttons.


Die Motive die ich dort zu fand waren einfach so entzückend dass ich schnell beschloss diese zu kopieren bevor ich eigene Motive entwickle.
Eine Art Hommage an die damaligen Künstler und deren Werke.

Da das ganze Projekt als Kundenauftrag startete war es von vorn herein klar das die Knöpfe für den Verkauf bestimmt waren.

empfehle ich Cabochon Halterungen in Knopfform (Metallplättchen mit Rähmchen und Lynette).

Meine bisherigen Recherchen zu dem Thema haben ergeben das man bei der Motivwahl relativ frei ist. Portraits, Landschaften, Tiere, Jagdszenen, sogar anzügliches ist zu finden.
So das man sich zu Jeder Garderobe, ja sogar zu jedem Anlass eigene Knöpfe anstecken könnte. ;)
My research on the topic so far is that you're quite free with the choice of motifs. Portraits, landscapes, animals, hunting scenes, even naughty pictures you can find it all. 
Which means you can make a new set for every attire, for every occasion even! ;)
